Winter Heating
If you experience cold winters, then an alternative heat source for your enclosure and monkeys could be required
Some of the most common are Heating pads and Heat Lamps.
In the case of heating pads, if you have a baby monkey, make sure that the heating pad is mounted on the side of the box to ensure that your baby cannot crawl on top of it and become too warm. Otherwise, make sure that it is inside a cover, or hidden away inside of a soft toy. Always remember that you must Always keep the electric components i.e. cords, out of reach of your monkeys..
If you are using heating lamps, then ensure that the bulbs are completely out of reach for your monkey babies. THEY ARE HOT. Always ensure that all electrics and wires are ALWAYS out of reach of your monkeys.
Heating pads and lights are available at most retailers and Petshops. If you don't have the means to make your own casing for a heating lamp, then some pet shops may be able to help with that too.
If your monkeys have sleeping boxes, then in cold weather, cover their enclosures with a thick blanket, to keep in the warmth. Make sure that their enclosures have a lot of soft toys and soft blankets inside that will hold heat. If you have a "cold house" then make sure that you keep your windows open during the day, to allow heat inside.
Make sure that you keep windows and doors air-tight. you can stuff a towel under doors if any cold wind is coming through. Make sure that you allow the maximum amount of sun to hit your house and your monkey enclosure. Direct sunlight is Always the best for your baby.
